Came here a few days ago to establish a relationship with these guys. Think it's pretty cool that a specialized fly shop is in our backyard, outside of Cabela's, or Bass Pro Shops. I have been fly fishing for about 16 years with mainly dry flies. I've recently decided to pull the trigger on a two-handed switch setup, and with all of the online instructions, and different lines running in a Skagit setup, I decided to speak with someone at Schultz. That someone was Nick, and he explained some things, answered a bunch of questions I had. I asked him to pull me a Skagit setup, and he took note of my rod & reel setup, and got me what I needed. He told me that when I get my rod & reel in, bring it in, and he'll spool & tie everything up for me. I did that today, and he had me ready to rock in 10 minutes, no charge. Thanks, Nick! These guys have a great fly & streamer selection, high-end rods & reels along with mid-ranged ones. They also have backing, float lines, Skagit spey heads, sinking lines, leader line, tippets, fly tools & accessories, polarized sunglasses, waders & rain gear, nets. They'll have what you need.
I’m very green to fly fishing but feel in love with it on a trip to the upper sierras. I took in my old fly rod I have had laying around unused for a decade or so in to see if it could be set up for more practice. I’ll definitely need to upgrade however, the guys at Schultz were knowledgeable helpful kind and set me up. I recommend. Thanks Jason. Go Depot town!
They always are a great help and knowledgeable. I came in with a list of supplies to purchase and they took the time to help me find each item. I’ve been here several times over the last decade and each time they provide excellent service.
Been coming here for fly tying goodies and tackle for a few years now. The staff in the shop are great and are very knowledgeable and friendly. They have arguably the best stocked fly tying store I’ve seen. The gear side is really well stocked as well, they carry allot of items on the gear side that are hard to find anywhere else.
I’ve been out on a guided float quite a few times with Colten. I would 100% recommend booking a guided trip with Schultz outfitters what a blast!
Top notch fly/spin fishing store and guide service. Can't say enough good things about the selection, service, and general wisdom provided by Schultz and crew.
Great shop and fantastic group that run it! Their fly fishing knowledge is top notch and they are always willing to share. Don't hesitate to stop in or give them a call. They are truly a southeast Michigan gem that should not be missed. I may not be a pro tier, however, the knowledge shared from bar flies and the massive stock of materials allows me to keep busy in the cold months and ready once the water thaws.
I am happy to share my experiences with Schultz Outfitters. They define what customer service should be like. As an intermediate level fly fisherman at best, the guys at the shop or on the water have treated me as a valued customer. They are always eager to help me find what I need. On the water James and Schultzie did not bemoan my short casts, tangled lines or retrieving flies out of trees. I have fished with them for bass, carp and steelhead. Each trip was a great experience. I have moved 3.5 hours out of the area and certainly miss being closer to the shop. They are a great group of guys who always put the customer first.
I am so disappointed, this is my home town flyshop and I feel they have taking advantage of me. I'm new to the sport and went to get an upgraded reel for a 5wt , they gave me a 3wt.i did not catch this until 2+ months later. I made a phone call to try and fix the problem ,they told me that a reel was just a fancy line holder and this is what they do ....shady business !!!!!
